By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to say, "“I can write a beginning for my how-to that really hooks my reader’s attention.”

In order to complete today’s lesson: 
  1. Watch the video.
  2. Find four examples of beautiful beginnings for how-to pieces.
  3. Analyze JUST the beginnings, and ask yourself: WHAT is the author doing? WHY is the author doing this? HOW?
  4. Make some notes as you answer these questions, so you don’t forget what you learned from these mentor authors.
  5. Write your own beginning FOUR different ways, mimicking each author’s style.
  6. Share your beginnings with someone who can provide you great feedback.
  7. Use this feedback and your own instincts to choose the beginning that you will use.
