In today’s lesson, I’ll share a three step process for locating and beginning to organize your evidence, in order to create a claim about your topic.
The photos below illustrate each of these three steps, and the video above adds context.
It may take you a number of days to gather, cluster, and categorize your evidence. Taking your time will help you create a truly meaningful claim, so try not to rush.
You’re ready to move on to the next lesson when:
–You’ve gathered evidence from every source and captured it on sticky notes, index cards, or scrap pieces of paper. You are also welcome to take photographs, too. You don’t have to print. Just make sure that each note or photo captures just one bit of evidence, though.
–You’ve spread your notes across a table, a wall, a large sheet of paper, or any other big, empty space.
–You’ve clustered your evidence, and then created categories that describe each cluster.
–You’ve used this process and the evidence that drives it to craft a meaningful claim.
